Developmental Inclusion Department (DIPS)
Purpose:
The DIPS program aims to re-imagine what wellness can look like. All of the services are inclusive and adaptable to individual needs. We work with individuals with special or diverse needs and their family systems to meet their wellness goals.
Social Recreation Activities:
Our Health and Wellness Department offers movement therapies in the form of therapeutic boxing, therapeutic yoga, and adaptive fitness. All services can be adapted to meet individual needs.
Support services:
We host monthly caregiver/parent support circles for families with children with diverse needs, as well as adaptive groups, mental health counseling, case management, and psychological assessments.
Referral Process:
Connect BDIPS to your regional center service coordinator to initiate the referral. For SDP, connect BDIPS to your FMS to onboard as a vendor, if needed. Documents are collected, then a private coach is assigned.
About the Program:
A movement therapy of your choice — boxing, yoga, adaptive fitness.
Weekly 1-hour sessions, up to twice a week, with a private coach.
Sessions can be in-home, near home (i.e. local park), or at any of our gym sites.
Sessions can be flexible to maintain interest and engagement.
Sessions can be flexible to include family members of choice.
Benefits:
The therapeutic benefits of movement therapies are physical, mental, and spiritual. All techniques are grounded in self-awareness, mindfulness, regulation, learning, and personal resilience. Participants gain esteem as they learn more about themselves, as well as new skills. Coaches are there to help improve confidence, independence, emotional regulation, communication, and quality of life through movement.
Who is eligible:
Everyone! This includes participants served by Regional Centers, individuals with intellectual or developmental delays, and families of children with special needs. Family sessions are encouraged!
Funding:
We work with Regional Centers to have services funded as a social recreational activity that meets socio-emotional and fitness needs. BDIPS also works with the self-determination program (SDP). We are vendored with several local financial management systems and can onboard as a new vendor, if needed. We also accept most major medical insurances including Kaiser and Medi-Cal.
Partners:
BDIPS collaborates with care teams to best support participants. We are proud partners of YAI Harbor START and can facilitate crisis management support, if needed.
