The Practicum Academy

The Practicum Academy is the structured training and development program we created for our MSW and MFT interns.
Instead of interns simply beginning practicum and immediately being assigned clients, they start with foundational training and continue participating in the Academy throughout their internship.

The Academy includes weekly training and hands-on learning in areas such as clinical skills, assessment and treatment planning, documentation, crisis and risk, case management, ethics, cultural responsiveness, community engagement, policy and advocacy, case consultation, professional development, and other areas of behavioral health and social work practice. Interns participate in role plays, practice activities, assignments, case discussions, and real-world application alongside their supervision and field experience.

The Academy at BDIPS offers flexibility for participants in terms of time as interns are offered opportunities to self-manage their schedules and see clients/gain hours that work with their schedule, including evenings and weekends. The Academy also exposes interns to working with clients of all abilities, ages and demographics. Interns also have the opportunity to work in different settings such as traditional therapy spaces, wellness complex, therapeutic boxing gym, and community enrichment programs.
