Better Days Integrated Programs invited as community partner as City of Torrance declares May Mental Health Awareness Month

As May approaches, Torrance Mayor George Chen declared May as Mental Health Awareness Month on April 21, 2026, and invited Better Days Integrated Programs (BDIPS) and other community-based organizations who provide essential mental health services in the community.

“WHEREAS, mental health is essential to everyone’s overall well-being, and increasing public awareness and fostering open conversations about the mental health needs of our community is vital to cultivating a safe and supportive environment for everyone,” the proclamation reads.

The proclamation addressed the importance and education of mental health, and encouraged residents to access available resources for those experiencing mental health conditions.

Better Days Integrated Programs provides essential mental health services to youth and families across the South Bay region, Long Beach and other cities in Los Angeles County. From one-on-one sessions with licensed clinical therapists to therapeutic boxing classes for adults and youth, to after school programs that integrate group therapy sessions, Better Days Integrated Programs is guided by these principles: to extend therapeutic services and programs across cities and provide a variety of programs and services that help individuals accomplish emotionally healthy and productive lives.

“This evening I’m joined by a dedicated group of individuals who partner with us in advancing our mental health initiatives,” said Torrance Human Resources Director Dr. Hedieh Khajavi.

“Mental health touches every part of our lives, our families, our relationships, our workplaces, and our broader community. By issuing this proclamation, the City of Torrance sends a powerful and compassionate message? That every individual’s mental wellbeing matters and that no one should have to face thor challenges alone,” she continued. Dr. Khajavi recognized and thanked the mayor and city council for their support of city-wide mental health initiatives such as Healthy Torrance, wellness challenges, and therapeutic activity sessions such as those conducted by trained boxing coaches from Better Days Integrated Programs.

Last year, Ramon Jauregui, Chief Health and Wellness Officer at Better Days Integrated Programs, led a therapeutic boxing session for city staff, along with other coaches. In doing so, the city aimed to promote employee wellness and ways to cope with stressful situations. Therapeutic boxing is a form of therapeutic fitness which is a holistic approach that integrates physical activity with mental health interventions to promote overall well-being.

Therapeutic fitness is one of many programs offered at Better Days Integrated Programs that supports individuals and their wellbeing.

While May is widely recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, Better Days Integrated Programs prioritizes mental health every month by supporting the community with mental health education and resources, and continues to close the gap between those who need services and those who can obtain it.
