The staff and kids at the Northpointe Afterschool Program had a fun-filled day with a Fall celebration featuring games, pizza and a performance by some program participants on Oct. 29.
“Our goal was to create a safe, fun-filled space for the kids,” said BDIPS CEO Darryl Sewell.
BDIPS enrichment staff and coaches decorated the walls and tables with seasonal decorations. Program participants and some staff came dressed in their costumes. Prior to the festivities, participants were required to complete homework assignments before joining in on the fun.
Different game stations were set up across the room, from ring toss to a balloon game, participants rotated to different game stations after eating pizza and snacks.
“Everything ran good. We had enough support out here. It was nice. Everything came together,” said Aniya Bufford, an Enrichment Lead at Northpointe who organized the festivities.
Bufford joined BDIPS three months ago and has hit the ground running at the Northpointe Afterschool Program.
“Northpointe has been an adventure. I love Northpointe, and I love the kids, and I love helping the community,” Bufford shared.
With several BDIPS staff members and coaches, as well as BDIPS partners from COR Community Development Corporation (COR CDC), monitoring game stations and food stations, program participants had an eventful day.
“That was such an awesome event. I thought it went really well. I asked some of the kids what their favorite part was, and their favorite part was the spider walk. It was fun to see all the kids in uniform and costume,” said Joann Guillory, who is the Resident Services Coordinator at COR CDC.
